Perspectives from SOCAP14

by Matt Gardner, CEO, California Technology Council

The Tech Council was represented this week at SOCAP 2014, a conference focused on social impact investing. This year's conference included very strong threads of technology propelling social ventures. We were pleased to develop ties to entrepreneurs at companies like Ruly and StartGrid, and to renew friendships and partnerships with the likes of Santa Clara University and Indiegogo.

Gold star for the week belongs to Google.org. Their team was out in force at SOCAP, showcasing dozens of participating organizations in the Google Impact Challenge. Beyond Google's selfless plugging of others, the Challenge itself highlights what tech can do to serve entrepreneurs of all kinds. Google's teams provided Challenge finalists with more than recognition. In many cases, Google provided access to technology and expertise. From design prowess to simple access to Drive, Google is helping social entrepreneurs win.

Well done, Big G. The Tech Council is willing to bet we don't thank you enough.
