The California Business Incubation Alliance met Thursday, April 9th at the new Illumina Accelerator in San Francisco. The Accelerator is located within one of Alexandria Real Estate's newest buildings in Mission Bay, near UCSF.
Heard from Amanda Cashin, head of the Illumina Accelerator provided an overview of their program. Among the highlights, Illumina has a Boost Capital program which recently announced $40 million in funding accessible to program graduates.
Participants in the discussion talked through needs they are hearing frequently from client companies, such as space for post-incubation phase companies. Such space is scarce in San Francisco and on the peninsula.
Attendees also discussed trends and new formats in accelerator offerings, including the pros and cons of scientific influence from parent companies.
